Confronting Concerns has been the major youth project of the Network for Peace through Dialogue. The Network is dedicated to connecting grassroots communities, both local and global in order to identify and research common issues and solutions in the areas of making peace and promoting just action. In the Confronting Concerns project youth from Harlem have been identifying through interviews to one another their concerns for themselves, their neighborhood and the world. They have then engaged in workshops to decide what they can do, in dialogue together, both to improve their own situations and to change the circumstance of their community for the better. Confronting Concerns II is proceeding. Since February 2007, one hundred Harlem youth from four different organizations have been interviewed regarding their concerns and as has been done in Confronting Concerns I, a planning team of youth and adults has created three sessions for the youth to discuss their concerns and take some actions stop. The final step will be that selected youth participants will be invited to join the Planning Team to consider how to present their concerns to the adults. They will incorporate principles of dialogue as they plan for the presentation. In the final and fourth Youth Workshop all of the youth will choose how they will participate in the Adult Session. To conclude The Planning Team will evaluate the Confronting Concerns II program and decide how to publicize the outcomes. Plans are also underway for the development of Confronting Concerns III.
