The Dialogue Project
Project Dialogue, begun by Marcia Kannry, is a group that meets in Brooklyn and includes Jewish, Palestinian, Muslim, and Christian participants. We discussed “hot words”, which are words that cause people to stop listening during a conversation. For example, a hot word for a Palestinian might be “birthright”, and for a Jew, “occupation”. Several provocative questions were posed during this session: Is dialogue influenced by a power imbalance? Does dialogue normalize a current situation, thereby preventing action and becoming a foundation for inaction? Is dialogue in itself, action?
